Dental Implants

Dental implants are a sturdy, natural-looking and natural-feeling option for our Richmond Hill and Toronto patients who are missing teeth. And in the long run, they're an extremely cost-effective choice, too.

What Are Dental Implants?

Implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed into the bone where teeth are missing. They act as tooth roots upon which the restorative dentist can fabricate a crown, thereby replacing the missing tooth.

Although implants involve a minor surgical procedure, they have some advantages over bridge placement.

Once the crown has been placed, a dental implants will look and feel almost exactly a like natural tooth does, and will also act just like a natural tooth would in relation to the rest of your teeth and your jaw. When implants are present, the process of “bone resorption” does not occur.

You will not notice any difference between your implants and your natural teeth when you are eating, brushing and flossing, or talking.

Altogether, these factors makes dental impants a great choice in terms of both function and aesthetics.

And with proper care and good oral hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime.

If you think you might be a candidate for dental implants, please contact our office, and we'll book a consultation to discuss your options.

The Continuing Cost of Bridges

While bridges may be less expensive at the outset (or may be covered by some insurance plans), you should consider that there may be considerable continuing expenses.

Bridges involve cutting down the teeth adjacent to the missing space. These teeth become difficult to clean, leading to possible local periodontal infections and decay under the caps of the bridge.

These teeth may also need future root canal treatment secondary to the trauma of cutting the teeth, or from the cavities that may occur.

These cavities are often difficult to detect as they are under the bridge caps and may be rather deep as a result.

Our experienced team is here to answer your questions and guide you through the oral surgery process.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Richmond Hill office.
